Zain Kahn is absolutely right to point to the incredible power of the latest generative models. He's also right to point to how this will disrupt Hollywood and the creative and advertising industries as a whole. When will this happen? Are there any impediments to #GenAI sweeping the board?Yes. Firstly, there may well be preferences for artistic output derived from humans - perhaps in its entirety, perhaps partially. Perhaps "notAI" holds value in itself. Secondly, there's the whole area of legal risk surround intellectual property. This is complex and may take years to play out. Models such as DALL-E and Sora don't "contain" original copyright material; this material has simply contributed to the weights within the model itself. Some models will deliberately prevent you from using prompts such as "draw me a picture in the style of xyz". Yet there is still residual risk for major brands. Here's a great guide from law firm Vischer, that helps deconstruct the whole set of issues. Yes, it's complicated (and comes from a Swiss legal perspective). The diagram is most helpful.https://lnkd.in/eqKU-c7w).#AILaw #AIrisk #copyrighthttps://lnkd.in/epbQ7r3j

AI is here to stay. That much is certain. But we must ask questions. The subtext here is that, if AI can imitate those "fake-looking" movies from the 80s, it must be close to doing real content now, right?Wrong.First, notice that there is limited actual movement in the "trailer." Everything is in an odd, waxy, uncanny slow motion. This doesn't prove we're knocking on the door of AI-generated movies, just that elements of the uncanny are cleaner, but nonetheless still uncanny in foundational ways.Second, many of those "fake-looking" movies, from Sinbad to Clash of the Titans, were actually the hyperstylized work of Ray Harryhausen. Looking at them now and thinking "Wow, those were bad, so AI doesn't actually have to be good," misses the point. A bit like looking at abstract art and going, "Huh, guess those cats couldn't draw, huh?" Harryhausen's work, which was foundational to the aesthetic of the times, was about atmosphere, not realism. (When you hear the soundtrack, no one goes "Hey, where's that music coming from?" Suspension of disbelief!)Third, I'm reminded of the movie Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. The previous film in the series was a surprise cult hit, so the studio greenlit a sequel. As the film went into post-production, the execs were shown a rough cut with rough draft CGI. They said, "Good enough," and greenlit the release without letting the artists finish the CGI – they thought they didn't need it. The movie was bad and took a big loss, since it was basically unfinished. The execs thought "good enough" would make them money, and it didn't. So where Kain has a point is that there may well be plenty of studios that go, "Guess we don't need to pay artists anymore!" and slash their budgets to maximize their profits, hurting their product in general.Fourth, the grid! The energy required to make this commonplace will not be feasible long-term without insane upgrades to the infrastructure.Lastly, Zain is answering zero questions in the comments but responding to most of them. So, he's here for hype, not argument. With all of AI, we have to *look closely.* Take a look at the time stamp -1:11 (as in, how much time is left in the video). The swords are waving nonsensically. Or, the elephant in the following frames, its motion makes no sense (watch its feet, or watch its trunk pass through/around one of the figures). To be sure, AI will *disrupt* Hollywood. I'm sure many VFX artists will have their careers disrupted by short-sighted execs who will say "good enough" and greenlight things that simply aren't up to snuff for the sake of dollars and cents. But the things that AI isn't good at – the minutia, the logic of movement – are perhaps foundational to these programs. The big picture looks better, but the small stuff isn't there, and you gotta sweat the small stuff. And there's increasing evidence that the current crop of AI programs and their successors won't be able to sweat the small stuff.

🤯 This AI-generated Lord of the Rings trailer, reimagined in an '80s film style, is a jaw-dropping preview of what’s coming. Imagine full-length blockbusters made from someone's basem*nt, indistinguishable from studio productions. It's truly uplifting to see the amazing creations emerging from AI, as it provides opportunities for gifted individuals who might not need to adhere to the expectations of major media companies anymore. This change empowers artists to showcase their creativity genuinely, liberated from the limitations of conventional validation.#ArtificialIntelligence #AIFuture #TechnologyTrends #Innovation #DisruptiveTech #DigitalTransformation #MachineLearning #FutureOfWork #AIInFilm #TechInnovation #FutureOfMedia #AIRevolution #DeepLearning #GenerativeAI #TechDisruption

While it is incredibly exciting to see the rapid AI advancements, and I agree with Zain that AI will absolutely disrupt Hollywood, creating a "smash hit movie" takes far more that breathtaking visuals. You could have the best visuals in the world, but without human centered storytelling at its heart, the movie will never resonate with audiences. The key is leveraging AI to amplify the human aspect of storytelling, not replace them. If an individual creative can afford to spend more time on inherently human tasks of genuine inspiration and creativity while leveraging AI to help refine their communication to the masses, we will achieve something great.

Take a moment and remember "paranormal activity" This was an incredible movie success, made, directed, acted, edited, all by 1 man... long before the Age of Ai. With Ai we will be moving very rapidly into a world where that kind of content creation is the norm. More people will be able to realise their creativity, for exponentially lower cost, and make it available to the world. This is a trend started by Spotify and the transition to Streaming, which already created a new kind of Creation Economy by making it easier and cheaper than ever before to reach a large, global audience. Now the creation and production side of things will follow, powered by Ai. Natural talent will matter less, passion, ideas and creativity will matter more.

This is a harbinger of a new era in content creation. As we move towards an increasingly digital reality, tools like this could significantly lower the threshold for high-quality content creation, making the art of storytelling more accessible and diverse. This leap could transform not only how we consume content but also the very nature of creative expression, enabling a flux of new narratives that were once bound by the logistical challenges of film production.

This 6-minute movie was rendered and voiced entirely by AI. There are lots of critiques you could make: the scenes are still more Ken-Burns-style pans than real motion; the characters look like rigged woodcuts vs. human movement; animated characters have more leeway with respect to the Uncanny Valley; and the script itself and music still appear to be human-generated. But...the rate of improvement here over the last 18 months is astonishing. This is what disruption looks like; early and promising experiments that push up against walls, focusing innovation on bottlenecks, until they break through.
