FYI: There are threads on the MAC and CUSA boards discussing the possibility that the MAC has asked WKU and MTSU for a 25-year grant of broadcasting rights (GOR), and that the talks have hit a snag, or are "on hold."
Not clear whether this is based on inside information or is merely a rumor, but the CUSA thread on this is 5 pages long, and the story hasn't been dismissed as an impossibility.

I’m on WKU/MTSU’s side. That’s ridiculous. A 5-year GOR, fine.

I posted that MTSU and WKU is helping shape the CUSA to their likings. I think the two are walking away from the MAC at this point.

There’s no way that story is true. G5 leagues know well enough that they have no ability to ask for a GOR of any length from anyone.
If WKU and MTSU aren’t going to the MAC, it’s going to be because the MAC presidents had a change of heart. It certainly won’t be because WKU and MTSU turned them down.

Good. No reason the MAC should be 14 teams and less FCS move ups the better.

Would it really matter if they left in a few years?
They're either worth inviting or they aren't...if you have to create a prison for them then that's an issue you need to work through with a therapist.

I mean, if they think they have a shot at the American or Sunbelt, you can’t sign that deal. MAC wants stability. MTSU/WKU would rather replace Memphis in the AAC. Very difficult to take that deal. I think it’s probably an accurate report because it’s consistent with how the MAC generally operates.
I don’t see why they’d need 25 years. 10-15 years seems sufficient.

ESPN? Wanting it before increasing the $$$ for WKU/MT.
Surprised it has come up but as I said I put the chances at 75% as it wasn't a done deal yet.

IMO, GOR for G5 is an absurd concept. I LOL'd when it was reported that some in the AAC were floating the idea of a GOR.
Anyone who ties themselves to a G5 conference for any length of time is a moron. Any G5 conference that asks for a GOR from its members is looking for an excuse to drive them away, IMO.

Twenty-five years ago was 1996.
What if some school was foolish enough to sign away rights in 1996?
There was no BCS, no playoff, no Amazon, no Facebook...
That isn't even getting into the pace with which player's rights issues and concussion concerns are coming out and whether football will make sense for anyone.

Supposedly it was the MAC ADs meeting today to iron out details. Presidents met Monday night after a Monday morning AD meeting.

I could not agree more a poster from Marshall
Is going to the details of the fine print between the MAC
and WKU and MTSU. Not buying any of it. We will see
All verified reports said we may no something by the end of the week
End of the week is tomorrow

I totally agree! Hopefully that isn't true or the MAC is no better than the ACC. If it is true DON'T SIGN it, it's no fun being in a prison conference.

I don’t put a lot stock in what an anonymous Marshall fan from Charlotte “heard”. On the off chance it’s true, MT and WKU should remove themselves from consideration because coming out of the gates wanting a 25 year GOR (to the MAC…) is not negotiating in good faith. I don’t know where MT or WKU will be in 25 years if they decide not to further pursue joining the MAC, but I honestly think they would both eventually end up in a better place. To forgo the cusa exit fees and pay anything just to get into a different irrelevant conference is absurd.

This whole rumor looks like a complete fabrication. No one would ask for or sign a GOR for 25 years - even to the SEC or Big 10. I call BS.
