The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at the university's health campus provides training for physiotherapists at an academic level based on nationally and internationally recognised recommendations.
The development of our students' skills is our priority. In addition to research skills, professional and interprofessional skills are supported through case-based learning, interactive teamwork and numerous practical training, practical placements, internships in line with the practical professional profile of physiotherapists. You will learn to identify the causes of various symptoms in a targeted manner and to plan and carry out treatments according to current scientific standards. Changes in society and health policy are creating new and significant fields of activity for physiotherapists, with an increasing profile of responsibility, both now and in the future.
Two degrees in one course of study!
Upon completion of the primary qualifying degree at Bochum University of Applied Sciences, you will acquire two qualifications: the professional qualification as a state-recognised physiotherapist (after 6 semesters) and the academic qualification as a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (after the 7th semester). This double qualification is a special feature at a state university in Germany!

The Physiotherapy programme is a full-time course of study over 7 semesters; it includes 16 profession-specific modules, 6 interprofessional modules and 5 practical study phases (in 6 blocks). Study content
The course provides you with theoretical and practical knowledge in physiotherapy. You will have many opportunities to develop your skills and abilities in our modern practice rooms, so-called skills labs, and during the practical study phases in our external cooperation institutions.
In addition to basic knowledge about the movement and function of the human body, you will acquire:
- comprehensive physiotherapy skills through case-based learning that will help you to become a reflective physiotherapist and a creative thinker,
- special communication skills and interpersonal skills that are necessary for working personally with patients as a physiotherapist,
- interprofessional skills that are necessary for good interaction and teamwork,
- research skills that will help you in your lifelong learning.
Our students' skills development is supported by various teaching and learning methods (both profession-specific and interprofessional), such as lectures, seminars, e-learning units, blended learning, project work, practical exercises, practical training and internships in various healthcare facilities.

Prospects on the labour market
Our alumnuses have very good prospects on the labour market and a wide range of opportunities for further qualification.
They work in patient care, take on management tasks with the appropriate professional experience, decide on an academic career, further qualify academically or take on extended tasks in other areas.
With the Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy, our alumnuses also have the opportunity to continue their professional career abroad.
Some alumnuses/alumnuses also decide on an academic career and work at universities, universities of applied sciences and other research institutes.
The academic qualification offers the opportunity to work outside of Germany in countries where an academic degree is standard and therefore mandatory.
