For $24.95, people will be able to do an instant check of public records that pertain to them, including criminal records in every state. More in-depth screening services will be available such as education and past employment and will cost more and take more time to process. Job seekers will be asked a series of questions that only they would know the answers to, such as past addresses, the amount of a mortgage payment on a prior home, the name of their gas provider and their telephone number at a prior address. Job seekers also will have to provide their name, Social Security number and date of birth. If a certain number of questions are missed, the person would have to call ChoicePoint to verify their identity before being allowed to get the background information, Lee said.

He declined to say how many questions a person would have to miss. The information is culled from courthouse records, credit reports, telephone directories, school records and from verifying information with employers, which ChoicePoint employees will do.
