"This is our favorite salisbury steak recipe. I always make enough extra sauce to serve over potatoes. Tastes like it took all day to cook."

  1. Great recipe! As with all recipes I tweaked it a bit according to personal preference. Keeping in mind that I never measure anything, here's my take on it: Instead of french onion soup, I use a dry packet of Knorr's onion soup mix. I combine 1/2 with the meat mixture (which otherwise is the same as this recipe) and reserve 1/2 for the sauce. For the sauce I use a tetra pak of beef broth to which I add onions, mushrooms, worchestershire & ketchup to taste, and the remaining onion soup mix. To thicken I use a flour & oil rue. Awesome over mashed potatoes!!!

  3. I loved this! It was super easy. I used cornstarch instead of flour and used regular mustard because I didn't have dry mustard. (1 tsp of dry mustard = 1 Tbsp regular mustard) Other than that, I followed recipe to a T. I served it with corn and mashed potatoes. I'm excited to have a new meal on my list. I will make this again on a regular basis. Thank you!

  4. Back 37 years ago when we first got married, this was one of my favorite recipes to make on a regular basis, then, somehow I lost the recipe!!! I am so happy to have found it again on "Zaar"!!! This is delicious, and the gravy is great over mashed potatoes!!! You can also bake these in a 350 degree oven for 60 minutes, pouring the gravy over the last 5-10 minutes. Enjoy!!! Thanks, Becky!!!

  5. Made this last night for supper as my husband said that he was hungry for Salisbury Steak. This was so moist and flavorful. I subsituted Ground Sirloin in place of the Ground Beef. I also did not have any ground mustard on hand, so I replaced that with Dijon Mustard. I also added a onion thinly sliced on top of the patties as they were cooking. Loved the recipe, and will be using it again!

Tweaks

  1. It's all about the mushrooms and marsala!

    Tiffany M.

  2. I add fresh sliced mushrooms to the sauce, then pour over the steaks.

    CJ G.

  3. Simply added diced peppers and onions, so good!

    Chip W.

  4. This was so very good. I reduced the ketchup to a big squeeze (2-4 tablespoons) then doubled the sauce recipe. To make up for more French onion soup, I added beef broth and half and half. Honestly, I will triple the sauce recipe next time!

    Tammy D.

  5. I used a lil over 2lbs of hamburger. I added half an onion diced up into the meat patties, the other half I added into the gravy on top that they cooked in. I added a lil bit more of all ingredients due to there being more meat. Also used an 18oz can of progresso onion soup (all of it) to yield extra gravy. Made 8 large and thick patties. Also I only used one large squeeze of ketchup instead of the 1/4 cup it calls for in this recipe after reading that many people weren't too into the ketchupy flavor the gravy had. Totally amazing recipe! Wish I could take credit for it myself!

I am a 33 year old stay at home mom (right now) of three great kids. I've been married for 16 years to the same great guy and we have a wonderful life together. Our kids are our pride and joy. We have one son and two daughters and they all keep us quite busy at times!! We live in the great state of Alabama and cooking is one of my favorite things. I love to cook for my family and experiment with new recipes. I love good ole country cooking like grandma used to make. I come from a long line of 'great' cooks and have tons of recipes from my mom and grandmothers that I enjoy sharing with my own kids and husband. My favorite cookbooks are those that belonged to my mom and her mom, most of the pages are battered and torn and I'm trying really hard to get these in new pages and on disks for my own two precious girls. Besides cooking, my passion lies in Scrapbooking! I just love scrapbooking and have a fortune invested in it...lol. (All of you scrappers know what I mean) This is one of the best hobbies I know, because I get to take the most important people in my life and compile books about our life together. I would love to do the scrapbooking retreats, but with little ones...it's hard! aw...but one day.....
