Chattanooga's GreenSpaces is helping to promote Plastic Free July, a global movement to reduce single-use plastic waste. Here are four ideas to incorporate in your daily practices this month. Ideas include bringing a reusable coffee cup to your local cafe, looking for plastic-free alternatives when buying fruits and vegetables, using canvas totes at checkout and drinking from refillable water bottles rather than plastic ones. The aim is to find temporary alternatives to plastics that can become new habits going forward. The website plasticfreejuly.org has more suggestions, plus a Pesky Plastics Quiz to see how plastics "sneak" into your shopping. Don't forget that Chattanooga takes part in the Hefty EnergyBag program, which separates certain hard-to-recycle plastics from regular plastic recycling.
